We are currently recruiting for a Technical Accountant in the White Plains, NY area. The Technical Accountant will be part of a team that is responsible for account reconciliations of technical balances, analytical review of reported financial data and audit support. The role will specifically be responsible for ownership of all insurance and reinsurance related financial accounts and reconciliations between the general ledger and source systems. 95K-115K Base + Bonus + Benefits Package


  • Prepare insurance/reinsurance financial account balance reconciliations
  • Calculate insurance/reinsurance financial account balance analytics (DAC, UPR, line of business analysis, underwriting income)
  • Ownership over all technical underwriting accounts and data interfaces with source systems
  • Ensure quality analysis of insurance/reinsurance financial accounts to support consolidated analytics and legal entity signoff
  • Assist with preparing ceded reinsurance adjusting entries and supporting schedules
  • Prepare audit support for internal audit reviews and external audit
  • Support and design appropriate and sufficient controls over financial account processes
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate and current procedures and controls documentation
  • Coordinate with IT regarding interface and reconciliation between general ledger and sub-ledgers for insurance/reinsurance financial accounts (i.e., premium, loss reserve, ceded activity, etc)
  • Other responsibilities will include ad hoc projects as assigned


Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 3+ years of business experience in insurance/reinsurance industry
  • Experienced accountant with understanding of technical re/insurance accounting requirements
  • Strong computer skills included Microsoft Excel (formulas, vlookups, pivots, etc.), Outlook, Word
  • Ability to work in a team environment; work independently when required
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in order to meet tight reporting deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment
  • Ability to manipulate large quantities of data and create meaningful analyses
  • Excellent technical, analytical, interpretive and evaluative skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Practical knowledge of GAAP or IFRS and statutory reporting
  • CPA, CA, or ACA designation and/or public accounting experience desirable
  • Experience with SAP (BW, GL, CD), FSRI is a strong plus
